Amazing place - should be on everyone’s bucket list
The Basilica Cistern is a must place to visit when in Istanbul. The fact we paid double the ticket price to guarantee not spending ages queuing was definitely worth it. In the end the normal queue wasn’t huge so the actual time saved for us was relatively minor, but the peace of mind of knowing that we would jump the queue whatever the length was worth the extra 9 Euros each. It was easy to find our guide (next to the Exit). There was a slight delay whilst he got all the tickets for our group (this could be more efficient) but otherwise no issues. We didn’t remain with the group as had listened to the excellent audio guide that comes with this ticket beforehand. This gives you the freedom to take in the Basilica at your own pace. Overall a fantastic visit to a rare example of human endeavour and expertise.
